Seroquel® (Quetiapine)

Generic Name: Quetiapine Tablets
Brand Name: Seroquel

Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. It may be used to treat such other conditions as your physician thinks appropriate. This drug is not approved for the treatment of patients suffering from dementia as, in clinical trials, it increased the risk of death due to infection or heart problems among elderly participants. A link has been established between the use of antidepressants and the incidence of suicidal thoughts or actions among young adults, teenagers and children. This does not deny that those who are depressed or suffering other mental problems may be more likely to commit suicide. The use of Seroquel should be discussed with the patient’s physician before use to ensure that the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Once the course of treatment using Seroquel begins, it is important that family and caregivers keep a close watch on the patient and liaise with the patient's physician on a regular basis. The physician needs to know immediately if the patient’s depression worsens, his or her behavior changes, or he or she talks of death.
