Famvir is an antiviral used in the treatment of a range of conditions caused by the herpes virus. It works by slowing or stopping the reproduction of the virus. In particular, it relieves shingles (herpes zoster infection), it treats recurrent cold sores, it treats or suppresses recurrent genital herpes in patients whose immune system is weakened, and it controls recurrent herpes skin infections in HIV-positive patients. It may be used to treat such other conditions as your physician thinks appropriate. |
