Actos is prescribed in combination with changes in diet and the introduction of physical exercise for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes in certain patients. Physicians use Actos both on its own and together with other antidiabetic drugs. As one of the Thiazolidinedione drugs, Actos may lead to or aggravate heart conditions. Before beginning a course of treatment, you must inform your physician if you have any cardiovascular problems. Your physician will monitor you during the initial stages of treatment, particularly as the dosage is increased. You must alert your physician immediately if your hands, ankles, or feet begin to swell, you experience any difficulty in breathing; or you have a sudden and unexplained increase in weight. It may be necessary to change the dosage or stop the treatment with this drug.
